We attended FoodCon 2020, an annual conference that celebrates the food and agri-business community co-sponsored by the business schools of UNC, NC State University, and Duke University. The conference brings together a diverse group of MBA students, academics, community members and business professionals who have a shared interest in sustainable food.
The theme of this year’s conference was Building Our Sustainable Food Network and a big takeaway was how technology and food production are becoming more interconnected. Sustainable farming practices and the supply chain are using technology to increase yields for farmers, reduce the use of chemical fertilizer and pesticides, while optimizing the journey of product to the customer.
As the food industry looks to create a more sustainable food network and the global food footprint grows, its clear we will become more reliant on technology to get fresh, safe food to the consumer.
